Unnecessary Chemicals: Defoamers

Foam is a bad sign, and indication that you have some form of problem or contamination in your pool. Pool foam (spa foam is more common, of course) should be addressed at the source. Correct the source of the problem, and the foam will go away.

Defoamers are simply lipstick. Avoid using them and correct the source of the problem.

Some algaecides, if overused, can cause pool and spa foam. Also, a leak in a return line can suck tiny bubbles into the pump system which can increase foam problems.
